Israeli scientists at the Technion propose using space parasols to mitigate global warming by building a prototype shield to block solar radiation, potentially reducing Earth’s temperature by 1.5°C within 2 years. Led by Prof. Yoram Rozen, the team plans to deploy shades at Lagrange Point One, 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, aiming to control solar energy reaching the planet's surface. The $10-20 million prototype aims to demonstrate feasibility for larger-scale implementation. Rozen emphasizes proving the concept rather than providing a complete solution, suggesting the potential effectiveness of such technology. The project marks a significant step in exploring innovative methods to address climate change.
